Revelstoke Theatre Company hosts another National Theatre Live-Encore event today, Sunday, Sept 8 at 1:00 pm at the Roxy Theatre, Revelstoke. This time we are screening “King Lear” with Ian McKellen, an ‘extraordinarily moving portrayal’ (Independent) of King Lear. (Ian McKellen played Gandalf in "Lord of the Rings" and Magnito in "X-Men".) Visit www.revelstoketheatrecompany.org for more details and see a teaser trailer at http://ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk/media/video/ntlout29-king-lear/eSu82KgkIX0.
Jonathan Munby directed this contemporary retelling of Shakespeare’s tender, violent, moving and shocking play. Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, King Lear sees two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.
If you haven’t seen an NT Live show before, you’re in for a real treat. Come and grab a famous Roxy popcorn, watch an amazing play straight from London, England and chat afterwards with fellow theatre lovers. The screening will be accompanied by a brief introduction and follow-up audience discussion about the performance led by Anita Hallewas, who is currently working on her doctorate degree in the
field of applied theatre.
